MARTA shows support for urban public space
The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) recently participated in PARK(ing) Day at Lenox Square. This worldwide event transforms parking spaces into temporary public parks to call attention to how public space is created and allocated.
MARTA’s “parking space” highlighted several of its non-transit-related programs that make use of public space such as Station Soccer, Fresh MARTA Markets, and MARTA’s public art program, Artbound.
Hundreds of people came by the event on their lunch break, many riding MARTA to Lenox Station, to bring attention to the need for more urban open space.
Event sponsor Livable Buckhead partnered with others to provide food, drinks, games, and activities.
