MARTA police teach life-saving skills at Five Points station

As part of National Preparedness Month, the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) taught life-saving skills to customers and employees at Five Points Station. The event, held on the 9/11 National Day of Service and Remembrance, was an opportunity to prepare people for different hazards, from severe weather to acts of violence.
“National Preparedness Month is the perfect time to learn life-saving skills and make a plan,” said MARTA Police Chief Wanda Y. Dunham. “The skills you learn today could save a life tomorrow.”
MARTA Police, along with representatives from MARTA’s Department of Safety and Quality Assurance and Community Emergency Response Team, taught cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED). MARTA Police Department’s Emergency Preparedness Unit and a representative from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) shared preparedness information with MARTA employees in a training session held at headquarters.
MARTA became the first public transit agency in the nation to work with FEMA for a preparedness event in December 2018 during Georgia’s Winter Weather Preparedness Week.
