MLK iVILLAGE DEVELOPMENT AT MARTA RAIL STATION TAKES SHAPE
The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA), the City of Atlanta and Invest Atlanta are bringing a new development for small businesses and startups to MARTA’s westernmost rail station, Hamilton E. Holmes.
A dozen repurposed shipping containers, designed to provide around 2,500 square feet of retail and office space, will arrive for assembly to the site at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, March 5.
The MLK iVillage is part of a broader effort to transform the westside. In 2016, Atlanta was awarded a $10 million federal grant to make improvements along the Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive corridor.
The development sits adjacent to H. E. Holmes Station on the MLK Drive side in a large parking lot that isn’t needed for MARTA parking. In addition to the repurposed containers, the area will include benches and green space for public events.
