Looking Back and Moving Forward: SPARK Prize 2 Years Later
It is hard to believe it has been two years since Helping Mamas pitched for the inaugural SPARK Prize! Being a part of a pitch competition was a completely new and unnerving experience. Little did we know that winning this award would change the trajectory of our organization. Before winning United Way of Greater Atlanta’s SPARK Prize, we were a little organization with big dreams. We served 200 children and were distributing essential baby items to seven agencies. We working from our garages and dreaming of a warehouse. The vision was there, we just needed the funds and some belief to execute.
Standing before a group of the most influential donors in Atlanta, we pitched our vision. We were thrilled when we walked away with the grand prize! With the award, we have opened a 2,500 square foot warehouse, served more than 6,000 children and distributed more than 200,000 diapers. Today we partner with 45 of the most established and best nonprofits in Atlanta. From our warehouse, we have had volunteers give more than 1,000 hours of service and hosted many volunteer groups. There is no doubt United Way of Atlanta and the SPARK Prize team is a major contributor to our success. We have not only used the funds we won through SPARK Prize but the skills and advice received as well. The Helping Mamas team is growing and we are already dreaming of bigger and better ways to serve!
